Under reconstruction (work in progress)
Chiatura is a small mining town in central Georgia. The town grew out of a small village of Kvirila, on the territory of which, in the 19th century, a deposit of manganese was discovered and mined since then. Chiatura is located in a picturesque river gorge and surrounded by mountains. Residential districts are located not only below, but also on the hills surrounding the central part of the city. Due to the particularities of the area  about 30 cable cars were built there. They became a kind of lifelines that connected the districts with each other. The inhabitants used them to go to work, to school or just to the nearest store to buy bread. The beauty of the region gave the idea to the government  to turn the mining town into a resort area. But after the collapse of the USSR due to the deteriorating economic and environmental situation, many people left the once prosperous city of Chiatura. Now going by cable way you can see an ordinary durty town and numerous mines, quarries, factories that gain more and more space. Gondolas are the only bright spots in urban space. In 2019, all cable cars were stopped and now they just hang over the city like strange Christmas decoration.
